Outstanding experiences await you in the Flint Youth Wind Ensemble.
Wind, brass and percussion players come together to rehearse and perform a variety of selections from the standard and contemporary concert band repertoire.
The Flint Youth Wind Ensemble (FYWE) began in 1986. It was designed to provide more experience for area students to play a wide variety of music for the concert band. Currently, its members, ages 13-18, arrive weekly from multiple counties to rehearse. They perform several concerts each season at the Flint Institute of Music, area high schools, and The Whiting. In the tradition of the Wind Ensemble, students strive to reach the highest possible performance level with maximum personal responsibility for their individual part.
In his fourth season, Christopher Hall conducts the Flint Youth Wind Ensemble. With experience teaching instrumental music in a variety of settings, from middle school to high school, he continues to expand this well rooted ensemble. Wind Ensemble students travel regularly and have shared their music with audiences in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Toronto, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Columbus. The FYWE will be experiencing many new and exciting opportunities in the coming years. Limited openings are available. For more information, please contact the Flint School of Performing Arts at 810.238.1350 EXT. 3.
