Dear FSPA Families,
Although Flint School of Performing Arts onsite lessons, classes and ensemble rehearsals are still suspended indefinitely, we have found creative options for continuing many of these programs in other ways. Hopefully you’ve taken advantage of them during this unprecedented time. Nearly all of FSPA’s lesson and class instructors have been successfully teaching their students virtually through Skype, Facetime, Zoom and other online platforms during these past few months.
We realize this isn’t ideal for our students, families and teaching artists who rely on music and dance for life and livelihood. Exposure to the arts and culture can make a positive difference for many people in difficult times. This is temporary, and if the restriction is lifted at any time, staff will make every effort to resume activity for some portion of the semester/term. Plans for Summer lessons, classes, camps and intensives are complete and program registrations and tuition assistance applications are in process. A new fund, the FSPA Fund for Student Needs is available to help with non-tuition expenses. Click here for more information. Planning for Fall lessons, classes and ensembles continues.
The FSPA office, as well as the Flint Institute of Music and Flint Repertory Theatre buildings, remain closed in compliance with the governor’s Safer at Home Order. While our buildings may be closed, FSPA office staff continue to work remotely and are ready to assist you with any questions regarding the financial implications for you and your student. The best way to contact the FSPA office is by email at email@example.com. Staff will respond to your email and schedule a phone call at a time that is convenient to you.
Please note, although educational programs continue virtually, FIM has postponed or cancelled all events and performances for the summer. For a complete list of cancelled and rescheduled performances, please visit our website thefim.org/covid-19/.
We look forward to singing, dancing and making music together again soon!
The Faculty and Staff at FSPA
It is the policy of the Flint Institute of Music's (FIM) that for the safety of its staff and patrons, masks are required to be worn when entering a building for business or for sponsored or managed events and performances (Includes Flint Symphony Orchestra, Flint School of Performing Arts, Flint Repertory Theatre, MacArthur Recital Hall, Whiting Auditorium, Capitol Theatre). However, attendance may increase your risk of contracting an illness such as COVID-19. As such, your attendance is an acknowledgment of that risk and an agreement to release FIM of any liability should you or anyone in your party be diagnosed with an illness. Please remember that masks are a legal requirement and must be worn. Please do not attend the event should you be or have recently been sick.
