Dominic Hayes is an active freelance hornist, performing throughout Michigan and the United States. He is currently a member of the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra and the Adrian Symphony Orchestra, and has also performed with the Toledo, Ann Arbor, and Battle Creek symphonies. As a soloist he has performed at the CHIME Festival at the University of Chicago and at the Society of Composers Inc. National Conference, premiering new solo works for the horn.
Dominic is a member of the Pure Winds Quintet; an award-winning woodwind quintet based in Lansing, Michigan. With Pure Winds Dominic has performed across the United States, as well as given lectures, masterclasses, and coachings to high school and college students. Recent engagements include presenting at the 2019 Midwest Clinic, the 2020 Kentucky Music Educators Conference, and performances at University of the Cumberlands and Union College.
In addition to performing, Dominic is an active educator. His private students span a large spectrum of age and experience, from beginners to adults. Besides teaching at FSPA, he is also the horn instructor at Belleville High School. His students have been honored with awards including Honors Band invitations and first division ratings at Solo and Ensemble competitions.
Dominic earned his M.M. Degree in Horn Performance in 2020 from the University of Michigan, and his Bachelor's Degree in 2018 from Western Michigan University. His primary teachers were Adam Unsworth, Bryan Kennedy, and Lin Baird.
