Samuel J. Richardson (FSPA Theatre Department Chair and Artistic Director of Flint Youth Theatre.)
Mr. Sam (as his students know him) is excited to lead the educational vision for the FSPA Theatre Department and FYT. He has taught and coordinated arts education programs since 1998, including stops in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and North Carolina, where his passion for creative dramatics and playwriting took hold. Samuel started working for Flint Youth Theatre in 2006 and has taught classes and workshops for students' ages 2-adult, he has also trained classroom teachers and after-school program leaders in how to integrate drama into their curriculum. He has directed many productions while at FYT, including James and the Giant Peach, Alice in Wonderland, Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat and created the Summer/Seasonal Shorts programs and COVID Chronicles student productions. His theatre interests include creative dramatics, playwriting, improvisation, theatre technology and beyond.
Samuel has been a guest lecturer at the University of Michigan - Flint, Eastern Michigan University, Assistant Technical Director at Concordia University-Ann Arbor and worked for the education department at Round House Theatre, MD. He is originally from England, and holds a B.S. in Theatre Arts from Lees-McRae College and an M.F.A. in Drama/Theatre for the Young from Eastern Michigan University.
